ACORN getting updated!

May 9th wrapped up a busy week for ACORN members. The day after the WAMU action. ACORN members turned out over 100 folks: environmental activists, friends, allies, labor, Port truck drivers and Port Commissioners Gael Tarlton and John Creighton, for a solidarity cookout in SouthPark. With beautiful weather, members Mercedes Mota & Bruce Jones grilled food including burgers, veggie burgers, Chicken (thanks once again to member owned El Paisano Rostiseria) and potato salad. Marilyn Takamaru’s boys brought a delicious East African rice dish. Drivers and neighbors played games, ate, and talked about what to do about the increasing hardships for Port drivers. Several ACORN members helped volunteer for Green Festival and Eco-April. The Green Festival, held the weekend of the 12th  of May at the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Washington</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">State</st1:placetype> <st1:placetype w:st="on">Convention Center</st1:placetype></st1:place>, was a smashing success. Most members took shifts through the weekend to help enroll folks in the Puget Sound Community Change Card. Thousands were enrolled at the event, laying the foundation for more money back to the community as well as supporting local green businesses.
