ACORN Clean Up Program

ACORN leader Vanessa Gueringer (in green sweatshirt) stands with ACORN Home Clean-out volunteers in front of her Lower Ninth Ward home.

Starting in December 2005, ACORN gutted and cleaned homes in low-income neighborhoods as part of our Home Clean-out Program. With the help of more than 10,000 volunteers, and over 400,000 volunteer hours, ACORN gutted and preserved more than 6,000 homes, making ACORN the program with the most homes gutted.

ACORN continues to spruce up neighborhoods, cleaning abandoned lots and assisting families with minor repairs. We have repaired hundreds of homes and built some brand new storm-proof houses in the lower 9th ward.

We can't save New Orleans on our own, but we can preserve the homes of many families, and show policymakers that the people of New Orleans will not let our communities be left behind.

We cannot do it without volunteers like yourself!
