ACORN HOUSING SERVICES

ACORN Housing is a national non-profit organization that has provided free housing counseling and helped over 50,000 low and moderate income homebuyers since 1987. ACORN Housing provides one-on-one mortgage loan counseling, first-time homebuyer classes, and helps clients obtain affordable mortgages through our unique lending partnerships.
By joining AHC (ACORN Housing Corporation) you receive:

  • Lower down payments and closing costs.
  • No Private Mortgage Insurance.
  • Banks generally require 3 months of mortgage payments in the bank at settlement.
  • With our program, they don't, which allows you to buy a home sooner.
  • Most banks won't count public assistance or voluntarily child support in determining if you'll qualify for a mortgage.
  • With our program, all steady income counts.

We do suggest six easy important steps for securing a good home loan or refinancing your house.

1) Get advice. ACORN Housing counselors are on your side and can help to evaluate loan offers

2) Make Sure Your Credit Report is Accurate.  Because lenders use your credit report to decide how risky they think you’ll be, it is very important to make sure that all the information on your credit report is accurate before applying for a loan.

3) Ignore high-pressure solicitations. Before you sign, take the time to have an expert-- housing counselor or lawyer--look over any purchase agreement, offer, or any other documents.

4) Shop around.

5) Don’t sign anything that doesn’t seem right. Do not sign blank loan documents or forms with blank spaces ‘to be filled out later.’ If you’re not satisfied with their answers, seek advice from a lawyer or loan counselor.

6) You can change your mind. You have three days after closing to change your mind for any reason, or for no reason at all.
